Ericsson Breaks the HSPA 21Mbps Barrier
Ericsson has just demonstrated an HSPA set-up that delivers 42Mbps download speed. They made true of their promise to come up with faster connection speeds at 28Mbps and even was able to achieve twice the speed of present Ericsson HSPA Evolution equipment, which offers peak download speeds of 21Mbps. They were able to do this by employing dual-carrier technology that they said can be implemented in existing HSPA equipment by software upgrade. According to reports, the demonstration is the first in the world and Ericsson said that the technology is now available for its commercial HSPA products. One of the telcos present at the high-speed HSPA test held in Stockholm is Australia’s Telstra, which presently uses Ericsson’s 21Mbps-capable HSPA equipment. This development is a welcome one for both telco operators, who now can deliver more data than before, and end users, who are continuously craving for more social media services and multimedia content.
