Skype has just released the first beta of Skype client for Symbian phones. This is not a beta for Skype Lite but for the real full version of Skype for S60 3.1 and 3.2-based devices. Symbian is an open source OS for mobile devices that was created through the integration of software assets contributed by Nokia, Sony Ericsson and NTT DoCoMo. The Skype Symbian beta supports Nokia phones ranging from the E51 up to the N96 and more models are promised to be added by the time the full version is released. The application supports Skype to Skype calls (over 3G and Wi-Fi), Skype Out calls, instant messaging, file transfers, voice mail access and many more. But one thing it cannot do is video calling, which we hope will be incorporated in the future. The beta version can be downloaded from the official Skype blog and must be installed in the phone memory. You can then connect using WiFi or 3G and test drive the many features it has to offer.

The N97 Mini comes with a 5.0-megapixel camera that is complemented with dual LED flash and a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. It has an internal 8GB memory where you can load your favorite music and high-quality video clips. It is expected to come out in the market this October with a list price of US$639.
