Acer seems to have decided to play a more important part in the smartphone market, considering its latest offering. The S200 neoTouch has everything a demanding smartphone user could want. It’s a touchscreen device (3,8″ resistive) and it runs the newest version of Windows Mobile, 6.5. The resolution of the touchscreen doesn’t fail to impress, at 800 x 480 pixels.
Data transfer is handled via HSDPA and HSUPA and, if you want to take high-quality pictures, the S200 has a 5 megapixel camera, featuring autofocus and flash.
Since HTC has launched its TouchFLO interface, you can’t have a Windows Mobile device without the manufacturer’s touch. Acer wanted to keep up, so the device uses Acer UI 3.0, that allows a better finger operation.
We saved the best for last. The neoTouch S200 has a whopping 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU (helped by 256 MB of RAM memory). So far, only the Toshiba TG01 could claim such power. No pricing information at the moment.

With such features, it becomes possible to imagine a mobile employee using a cell phone to participate in a video conference or tune into high-quality streaming video.
It won’t come cheap for carriers, however. According to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), carriers in the United States are expected to spend $4.4 billion on WiMAX infrastructure equipment in 2008.
