Windows Mobile 6.5, a Stopgap Until Mobile 7 Arrives
Windows is coming out with the second edition of Mobile 6.5. Windows Mobile is a compact operating system developed by Microsoft, for use in smartphones and other mobile devices. The second edition adds a number of UI updates that are supposedly designed to make it more usable, especially with capacitive touchscreens. The more notable of those changes is the new “Today” screen. Though the classic Today screen is still available, 6.5 features an all-new version that somewhat closely approximates that of Zune’s home screen experience. This new Today screen gives 6.5 a freshened look. According to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Windows Mobile 6.5 was never part of Microsoft’s mobile phone roadmap and just a stopgap until the multi-touch enabled Windows Mobile 7 arrives in 2010.
